A 34-year-old man has been found guilty of raping a 27-year-old doctor during a late-night attack in Glasgow city centre.
Mihai Nicolae Patran, originally from Romania, targeted the woman on Mitchell Street in the early hours of 26 November 2023.

The victim, who had recently moved to the city to begin work in the NHS, was walking alone after a night out when Patran assaulted her. She managed to escape and alert police, and later gave evidence about the ordeal at the High Court in Glasgow.

Patran was arrested shortly after the incident. During his first court appearance he behaved inappropriately in the dock, behaviour the sheriff later reported to police.

Jurors found him guilty of rape and of two earlier incidents of indecent exposure, including one on a train between Perth and Stirling in October 2023. He was placed on the sex-offenders register and remains in custody awaiting sentence next month.
